Dietary Concerns & Food at CampCatholic HEART Workcamp provides well-balanced meals designed to meet the nutritional and energy needs of active teens. These shared meals are an important part of the camp experience and community life. Participating in a mission trip with CHWC also means stepping away from everyday comforts. As part of fully immersing in the experience, we ask that campers:
  • Eat the meals provided at camp
  • Not go out to eat before, during, or after scheduled mealtimes
  • Not have food delivered to the school during the week
By embracing this, campers are invited to:
  • Avoid wasting the food already covered by their registration
  • Grow in gratitude for everyday conveniences
  • Develop greater empathy for those with less
  • Experience the joy and meaning of sacrifice
(Group snacks outside of regular meal times are permitted.)

Allergies & Special DietsWe deeply care about the well-being of every camper and understand that many participants have food allergies or special dietary needs. While we strive to be as accommodating as possible, due to the large number of campers, the wide variety of medical and dietary conditions, and food service and liability restrictions, Catholic HEART Workcamp is not able to prepare or guarantee allergy-safe or special-diet meals, including but not limited to peanut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, or medically restrictive diets.
  • Vegetarian options are available daily.
  • If a camper has a medical allergy or requires a strict or specialized dietthey must bring their own food and/or supplement their meals as needed to ensure their safety.
Upon arrival at camp, campers with dietary needs should notify the CHWC Kitchen Manager so proper storage and procedures can be arranged.

Food Storage & Preparation
  • designated refrigerator will be provided for campers who must bring food due to allergies or medical dietary needs.
  • This space is only for allergy/special-diet food (not for youth group snacks).
  • Campers are not permitted to cook or use ovens due to school facility and insurance restrictions.
  • Campers may use a microwave if one is available.
  • Only adults may enter the kitchen area.
  • Each group must designate one adult (21+) to help coordinate any camper’s dietary needs if necessary.
Peanut Allergy Lunch ProcedureFor the safety of all involved, campers with peanut allergies who do not bring their own lunches will:
  • Prepare their own allergy-safe sandwiches for the week
  • Do so under the supervision of the CHWC Kitchen Staff
  • Have their lunches clearly labeled with their name and team number
  • Store them in the designated allergy refrigerator for daily distribution
For safety reasons, campers with allergies are responsible for preparing their own allergy-safe food.
